Nigo was born on 23rd December 1970 in Maebashi, Japan. While he’s mostly known for his involvement with Bape, there are several other facets to his career. He is the DJ for the Teriyaki Boyz, owns a record label, is a drummer & is the lead designer for Billionaire Boys Club and Human Made.
On April 1, 1993 Nigo & Jun Takahashi opened a t-shirt store they named "Nowhere" in Harajuku. Nigo created his own brand to sell in the store and after watching a 5 hour Planet of the Apes TV marathon, he came up with the original ape face concept and the name A Bathing Ape in Lukewarm Water. Nigo took the first part of the name, A Bathing Ape, and quickly printed out a small run of items. To get the word out about his brand Nigo produced 30 to 50 shirts a week, selling half and giving the other half to friends. BAPE was officially born.
